The Long Road Auditions

The Long Road by Shelagh StephensonArouet is thrilled to be present the US premiere of Shelagh Stephenson’s critically acclaimed play “The Long Road”, which was written in collaboration with the UK-based charity “The Forgiveness Project” and premiered at London’s Soho Theatre in 2008.

Arouet’s The Long Road will be directed by Zandi Carlson, last seen on the Arouet stage as Paige in The Gene Pool.

Rehearsals run January 26th-February 26th; Mondays & Wednesdays 8-10PM, Tuesdays and Thursdays 7-10PM with two weekend rehearsals Saturday, February 21st and Sunday February 22nd.


Character Breakdown

Joe: Early 20’s. Joe witnessed the murder of his brother, Dan. Dealing with survivors guilt; feeling inadequate because the better sibling died.

Mary: Joe’s mother. Seeking to forgive Emma, the murderer who killed her son. Struggling with conflicting emotions of forgiveness and revenge.

John: Mary’s husband. Dealing with the loss of his son by obsessively running and drinking. John is traditional, trying to be stoic, but crumbling.

Emma: 19. Emma stabbed and killed Dan, an 18 year old, while high on drugs. She is currently in prison. Emma is damaged, defensive and also funny.

Elizabeth: Late 20’s-early 40’s. Works in the prison system. Kind, funny, and thoughtful.

Audition Requirements

Please prepare two contrasting contemporary monologues about one minute each. One monologue may be in an English/London dialect if you choose (not required). Please bring your resume and headshot to the audition, and be prepared to provide conflicts during the rehearsal time.

Rehearsals
